Cuts Like A Sword But Fits In Your Pocket - A Review Of The Cold Steel Caledonian Edge Folding Knife

Ancient samurai blade shapers in Japanese Islands would do their leaf blades with many layers of laminated steel. This procedure was called "Honsanmai" which intends three layers. This type is steel is perfect because you acquire a difficult and crisp film editing edge. Compound that with softer, more than flexible steel on the outside and you have got the beginning of a great knife.

Cold Steel is applying this rule to their "custom series" folding knives.

I was able to acquire a good trade on a Caledonian Edge recently and here are my thoughts:

What I like about the knife:

1. San Mai steel intends great border keeping with less brittleness.

Not only was my Caledonian border hair shaving crisp out of the box, I cognize that it isn't likely to interrupt under difficult usage like some high C blades.

2. The Caledonian Edge looks and experiences like a usage dagger. It only have one sharpened edge, which is good because you don't necessitate to worry about it getting confiscated in most cities.

3. The leaf blade is hollow ground. This agency that the thick spinal column goes thinner as you acquire closer to the edge.

This characteristic gives the Caledonian Edge a razor crisp film editing edge, which is perfect for precise cutting.

4. The jimping (thumb grooves) on the spinal column of the leaf blade experiences nice in your hand. This is also helpful for making razor thin slices.

5. Cold Steel utilizes a ace tough "liner lock" that have been tested to throw well over 100 pounds.

No demand to worry about your fingers getting chopped off!

What I didn't like about the knife:

1. With a recommended retail value of $419.99, Cold Steel's Caledonian Edge is on the costly side.

Overall:

The Cold Steel Caledonian Edge is a great knife for public utility and mundane use.

It also looks very impressive and is well deserving the $420 terms tag.
